REMEMBERING THE SUMMER OF 1943 IN DETROIT, WHICH BROUGHT BOTH TURMOIL AND LOVE.

JUNE 20, 1943 - THE DETROIT RIOTS BEGAN AFTER A RACIALLY MOTIVATED ALTERCATION BETWEEN BLACKS AND WHITES ESCALATED FROM BELLE ISLE AND MOVED TO PARADISE VALLEY, ONE OF THE POOREST NEIGHBORHOODS IN THE CITY. OVER THE COURSE OF THE 3 DAYS, 34 PEOPLE WERE KILLED - MOST BLACK AND BY POLICE.

SEPTEMBER 1943 - NOVA'S GRANDMOTHER, EVA "BUTCHIE" MOORE, WAS BORN. SHE EMBODIED ELEGANCE AND WAS FULL OF MERCY. EVERYONE'S FAVORITE AND BOY! COULD SHE DRESS TO THE NINES.

for nova, its all about balance. A LOVER AND A FIGHTER. #DETROITPLAYER
